Here is a very small glimpse of all of the beautiful babies, children, people and families I get to photograph on a daily basis. I have been a portrait photographer for over 20 years now and I get overwhelmed and feel so rewarded to be apart of such beauty.

The Mission in Sepia
The Alleman family at the beautiful San Juan Capistrano Mission in sepia. The Mission lends itself perfectly for sepia photography because of all of the brick work, arches and the contrasty shadows. The Allemans did a great job coordinating the right colors and textures in their outfits for that perfect family portrait.

Our adventures took us to Hollow Top Lake in Pony Montana, High school rodeo, a historic homestead ranch to photograph a family, the majestic Yellowstone National Park and the Mantle Horse Ranch. Our photography participants captured images of horses people and nature. The Mantle Ranch hosted our expedition and gave us countless opportunities to capture the perfect shot, What an adventure!

Photography Tip of the day
Take your subject out of the middle
I think we have all been trained to center everything we photograph; however centering everything can be boring.
Following the rules of thirds can make your image much more interesting. An easy way to do this is to divide your frame like a tic-tac-toe board and place your subject at any of the intersecting lines.
I think that you will be happy with your artistic results.

Capturing true emotion…
We are passionate about giving participants in our workshops the tools and knowledge to become better photographers with a new ability to capture images that tell amazing stories and to come home with a new understanding of horses and an experience of a lifetime.
Montana Horses welcomes photographers and horse lovers for a three-day adventure-packed workshop in Three Forks, Montana.
Experience a real working horse ranch (Montana Horses is not a dude ranch) with more horses than you can count.
Capture images of horses running as a herd down mountains with dust hundreds of feet in the air and catch them running through water.
Create images of bucking horses, cowboys on bucking horses, round corral roping, riders racing through water, rodeo practice, hundreds of horses in a corral and learn horse 101 from the ranches owners, Kale and Renee Mantle.
Shoot over our shoulder as we photograph a portrait session of a real cowboy in front of his barn and a family with children.
Go on the ride of your life to Hollow top lake. This is a photo safari on horseback were you will ride through creeks, and experience untouched beauty. We will be going through the classic old Montana mountain mining town of “Pony” before the ride so be prepared to capture images of old abandoned buildings and barns. On our way back we just might stop for a spell at the small towns saloon.
Don’t put your camera down yet; we will be going to Yellow Stone Park to capture breathtaking images of rivers, canyons, landscape, animals and an outdoor portrait session of a family with children.
By the time you go home, we will have covered, lighting, composition, movement, horse behavior and herd mentality. You will have a new passion for photography and you will have once in a lifetime images that not only tell amazing stories, but also have captured true emotion.

Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Val Westover Photography Receives 2009 Best of Laguna Niguel Award
U.S. Local Business Association’s Award Plaque Honors the Achievement
WASHINGTON D.C., March 20, 2009 -- For the second consecutive year, Val Westover Photography has been selected for the 2009 Best of Laguna Niguel Award in the Photographers category by the U.S. Local Business Association (USLBA).
The USLBA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USLBA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.
Nationwide, only 1 in 70 (1.4%) 2008 Award recipients qualified as 2009 Award Winners. Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2009 USLBA Award Program focused on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USLBA and data provided by third parties.

Addison & Willa
Addison and Willa were married last Saturday at Scripps College in Claremont, California. This was a wedding that you would have wanted to be at! The people, the atmosphere, the band and the beautiful evening made for a night that I did not want to see come to an end. Willa and Addison's family made me feel like I was a part of their family, I'm pretty sure that I had as much fun and enjoyed the evening as much as thy did. This is going to be a tough wedding to top!
Thanks, Willa and Addison!

Congratulations to Galen Morrisey, Nashville Tennessee

We are very proud to announce our partnership with Galen Morrisey.
Galen Morrisey - Nashville, Tennessee
Specializing in dramatic black & white headshots
She's about as casual and informal a person you would ever want to meet...
Galen is an incredibly affectionate person. She strives to bring that out in others in life and through her work as a photographer. She has love for all that was created with love. She loves horses and dogs and yoga.
She's known as the girl who absolutely adores Audrey Hepburn.
In her work as a photographer she has a gift of capturing that deep seeded emotion that lies beneath the surface. That is her personal endeavor in her work as a photographer. She strives for this so that she can share this with others through her art.
Her strong talent is black and white photojournalistic portraiture.
She's a Connecticut yankee with a California state of mind and a "free spirit." You may find her at a traffic light in her Jeep Wrangler with the top always down and the music always mellow as she ponders her next photo shoot.
We are just about to release our new web site and you will soon be able to see Galens beautiful work.
Thanks Galen for this very exciting partnership!
